All Jacoby Men's Club members receive a GHIN Handicap as part of their membership dues.

We will post your scores to GHIN for all eligible JMC events.  An eligible round would be any individual stroke play event (low gross/low net, best ball, drop worst two holes, money games, etc.). When playing in a tournament, please confirm with the tournament director or staff if they will be posting scores to GHIN on your behalf.  If they are not, you must post these scores yourself.

As a reminder, according to USGA guidelines, you must post scores for all eligible rounds of golf that you play - it's not an optional process. Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicapping System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review. Please visit the USGA Handicap Manual for all the information you can handle about handicaps. The short of it is this: if you go out and play, that score should be posted.

  • You may post your scores online at GHIN.com using your GHIN number and last name (or create an account).
  • Download GHIN mobile for Android or iOS and post your scores through the app.
  • You must post a score if you play 7 or more holes (post 9 hole score) or 13 holes or more (post 18 hole score).  Scores for unplayed holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes.

Posting all applicable scores and maintaining an accurate handicap index is important to ensure fair play in both Men's Club and in any other event you might play. If you are not, please make sure you are posting your scores regularly! If you have an 'NH' handicap or are not posting scores regularly, the JMC board/Jacoby Handicap Committee may adjust your handicap index as needed.

Maintaining your WHS (World Handicap System) Handicap Index

 https://www.usga.org/handicapping.html

Short version:
-New World Handicap System has been in place since 2020
-Handicaps are updated daily
-You must post all of your scores ASAP after the round (excluding JMC events, we post those).
-Max stokes on a hole for posting scores is now Net Double Bogey (“Double Bogey Plus”)
-PCC (Playing Conditions Calculation) is calculated every day and if necessary, adjustments are automatically made to reflect the playing conditions. It’s important to post your scores in all conditions, no matter how good or bad, on the same day as your round.
-If you play 7 or 14 holes, you still need to post your 9-hole or 18-hole score using net par for the remaining holes.

The Handicap Index Calculation Has Changed

  • Your number is now based off your 8 best scores out of the past 20.
  • New players will now have a handicap after only 54 holes.

You will have more responsive Handicap Index updates

  • Your Handicap Index will update the day after you post a score.

Players are obliged to post ALL of their scores DAILY

  • Please post your scores ASAP after each round.  This is important not only for your daily revisions but for the courses daily PCC calculation (more on this below)
  • Download the GHIN app to post your scores (Android) (Apple)
  • Players are STRONGLY encouraged to enter Hole-By-Hole scores when posting.  When posting Hole-By-Hole scores, the app automatically calculates your Net Double Bogey, so you do not have to figure this out yourself. If you post only a Total Score, you must account for your net double bogey max in the total.

Net Double Bogey has replaced ESC – “Double Bogey Plus”

  • The maximum hole score for handicap purposes is limited to Net Double Bogey (Par + 2 + any handicap strokes you receive) or “Double Bogey Plus.”  This does not mean you pick up when you reach this score; this is the max you can post for your handicap calculation.
  • Again – if you enter hole-by-hole scores this is handled automatically.
  • You need to know your course handicap, which can be found in the GHIN App or online at the GHIN website.  For example, if your Handicap Index is 12.4, your Course Handicap from the Whites at Jacoby is 12. That means you get strokes on holes with a handicap rating (Stroke index) of 1-12.  The maximum score you can post for these holes is a Double Bogey Plus the handicap stroke.

PCC (Playing Conditions Calculation)

  • The Playing Conditions Calculation (PCC) is a daily calculation that compares actual scores made at each course to the expected scores of the players who made them.
  • If the composite of scores is significantly higher or lower than what’s expected, an adjustment will be applied automatically to the score differential calculation of those who played that day.
  • This adds to the importance of posting all of your scores daily regardless of playing conditions.  The PCC will allow a higher score made in difficult playing conditions to be recognized as such. But, everyone needs to be posting all of their scores for it to work as intended!

Incomplete holes/rounds

  • You are required to post your scores to the GHIN app if you complete 7 holes of a 9-hole round, and 14 holes of an 18-hole round. If you do not play a hole, you are required to post a score equal to NET PAR (par plus and stroked you receive) for that hole when posting your score.
  • If you start a hole but don’t finish, for posting purposes you are required to use your Net Double Bogey or Most Likely Score – whichever is lower.
    • The most likely score is:
    • The number of strokes already taken to reach a position on a hole, plus
    • The number of strokes the player would most likely require to complete the hole from that position, plus
    • Any penalty strokes incurred during play of the hole.
